This charity, set up in 1993, aims to protect threatened natural habitats, the biodiversity they contain, as well as the indigenous people depending on them. Rainforest Concern operates in 12 countries worldwide: Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Romania, Suriname, Costa Rica, Panama, India, Sri Lanka and Uganda. The charity works to manage and create protected reserves within forested land, in particular forested corridors; to create alternative income, health and education programmes with local communities, such as sustainable small-scale horticulture.
